Your Maldives Dream
Sustainability
Sustainability on board our liveaboard
Welcome on board! As passionate divers and nature lovers, protecting the oceans and their fascinating underwater world is particularly close to our hearts. That is why we are actively committed to sustainability – both above and below the water.
Our measures for sustainable operations:
🌱 Energy efficiency:
A special highlight is our PV system on the sun deck. With the 16 kWp photovoltaic system, the boat saves around 8,000 liters of diesel per year, thereby reducing the ecological footprint of our guests.
The heart of the system is an 80 kWh (!) lithium iron phosphate battery (LiFePO4) that is state-of-the-art in terms of technology and safety. This allows the boat to always get through the night without a diesel generator, and usually through the entire day as well. Generators run for shorter periods and are operated with better efficiency due to higher utilization. The sophisticated inverter system from Europe also provides the cleanest possible electricity, which means that many electronic devices on the boat can remain in operation for longer. Photographers in particular appreciate the longevity of their batteries. The investment costs of around 70,000 euros did not deter us from being a pioneer in the liveaboard segment in the Maldives when it comes to sustainability. Manuel, from the family of operators, worked for several years as a consultant for PV systems and planned the system on paper. The Schmidt family hopes for many imitators and is happy to help other boats with the first important planning steps.
💧 No plastic water bottles
On board, we use an efficient water treatment system that reduces consumption and avoids pollution. We also have a mineral water system that provides the best drinking water of the highest quality. Thanks to this system, we can completely do without plastic bottles and thus avoid a significant portion of plastic waste – a major step for the protection of our oceans.
♻️ Waste management: We separate and dispose of waste carefully, avoid single-use plastics, and rely on reusable alternatives. The disposal of plastic bottles contributes significantly to reducing the amount of plastic waste on board and in the environment.
🍽️ Regional cuisine:
Our cuisine is based on fresh, regional, and seasonal ingredients that are selected with great care to support local communities and minimize the ecological footprint. Particularly proud are we that many of our dishes are inspired by the art of Ayurvedic cooking. The Ayurvedic cuisine is characterized by balanced, healthy preparations that nourish body and mind alike and give you new energy for your adventures.
An important aspect of our sustainability is our conscious handling of marine resources: we do not catch or consume fish that are crucial for the health and balance between corals and algae, such as parrotfish or surgeonfish.
🪸 Marine awareness:
During dives, we take care not to damage the sensitive reefs and habitats. To avoid unintentional damage to corals, we use reef hooks, which allow us to position ourselves safely in current dives without touching the underwater world. We also promote conscious diving through workshops and presentations. Particularly popular are the Manta ID and Whale Shark ID workshops, where you can learn more about these fascinating animals.
Together for a healthy underwater world
We invite you to be part of our sustainable journey! Small gestures like using eco-friendly sunscreen or bringing your own reusable water bottles make a big difference. Together we can preserve the beauty of the seas – for ourselves and future generations.
Thank you for supporting our mission. Let's dive in together and make the most of your safari – with respect for nature!
